Human Resources has come a long way since the days of ‘personnel’ it has become the forefront, driving the business forward no matter what your sector.
The HR function expanded to become much more strategic and so was born HR business partnering. Moving beyond the remit of payroll, HR would now cover a much wider role across the business, focussing upon talent, organisational design, L&D, and communications.
In more recent times the HR function has again transformed, this time becoming much more integrated with the business itself.
This has seen the HR function move into competency management, leadership development, and succession planning.
A lot of clients I work with use HR portals, which they pay a subscription for. This is a fantastic alternative to having an internal human resource department BUT… if you don’t know what you are asking or looking for then outsourcing to this level is not efficient or cost-effective.
There are plenty of sights that provide accurate information but again if you’re not familiar with the terminologies used it's very hard to apply it to your working day.
